There are over five millions Congolese killed since 1997 to date. Many Congolese girls and women are being raped but majority of Americans don't know about it. Why? Because main cable news don't talk much about it. Fundraising Coordinator

My name is Evan Elise Easton-Calabria and I am a 2009 graduate of the University of Washington, where I studied German and Human Rights. I spent last year as a full-time volunteer at a former concentration camp outside of Berlin, and spent one day a week supporting Holocaust survivors. My interest in the Holocaust has evolved into a passion for addressing social justice issues today. While traveling in Uganda, I came into contact with Congolese, Rwandese, and Burundian refugees in urban Kampala. After recognizing that these people are without support and without a voice, I have created a project called "Paper Airplanes," which is designed to raise awareness of them internationally, by intersecting art and activism. The goal of this project is to provide a platform for these unheard voices through connecting artistic communities in Kampala, Uganda; Seattle, WA, USA; and Krakow, Poland, and focusing on the theme of "Home" through various artistic mediums. Workshops and events focused on fundraising for the refugee center in Kampala and sharing these voices will take place in Kampala, Krakow, and Seattle.
